What’s Next for the Columbus Blue Jackets?

I know what you all are thinking. Maybe it’s time we start rooting for the Columbus Blue Jackets? Although their season started off less than “stellar”, it seems that after the New Year, the Blue Jackets have decided to bring the heat. The question is: Will the Blue Jackets continue their impressive winning streak against the Philadelphia Flyers tonight”? And not only hail victory over the Flyers, but take our Columbus team to the playoffs this season?

According to Kevin Allen of USA Today, there are 5 big reasons that the Columbus Blue Jackets will make the playoffs.

  1. Sergei Bobrovsky, the goal tender for the team, recently returns to the net after recovering from a groin injury.
  2. Nathan Horton, who missed the first 3 months after an offseason shoulder surgery, is back in the game. During the 7 game winning streak, Horton brought 2 goals and 3 assists.
  3. Ryan Johansen has contributed 18 goals and 36 points in the past 48 games.
  4. Jack Johnson has contributed 19 hits with 5 assists throughout the 7 game winning streak.
  5. Finally, and most importantly, the offense has shown up to win. The team has averaged 4 goals per game and won 2 shootouts during this streak. Cam Atkinson with 15 goals, Nick Foligno and Arterm Anisimov with 12 goals each, and Brandon Dubinsky with 32 points in 48 games.

If this intense offensive powerhouse and 7 game winning streak does not spark the interest of our Columbus natives, what will? The Blue Jackets must try to secure one of the 3 playoff positions in the Metropolitan Division; which are currently occupied by the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Rangers, and the Philadelphia Flyers in that order.

So the questions remain: Will the Columbus Blue Jackets be able to continue their winning streak tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers? Will they be able to secure a playoff position for the Metropolitan Division? Or will their incredible momentum cease to exist? Tune in tonight at 7pm to find out what future will be in store for the Blue Jackets and help cheer on our team to victory!

Happy New Year from The Lofts! //
December 30, 2013

With 2014 being less than 48 hours away, we can’t help but be excited for all the great attractions coming to downtown Columbus in the near future.  The #OETC Convention, #NAPICS, The Platinum Series,  Luke Bryan at the Schottenstein Center, #WWE at Nationwide Arena, George Strait’s Farewell Tour….you get the idea!

Although there are many things to look forward to in 2014, let’s take a look at #ColumbusCulture in 2013, and see which teams, music venues, restaurants, etc  came out on top….

Here are some of the #Bestof2013 Awards via ColumbusUnderground :

Best Place for a Cheap Date- South Fourth Street.  Can we say El Camino or Dirty Franks ? And who can go wrong with TheSciotoMile or The North Market for a cheap date? Both places also made the list.

Two of the Best New Restaurants in #Columbus (at least we think so here at The Lofts Hotel)  are Bakersfield originally from Cincinnati and Melt making its way to the capital city from Cleveland.

CharlesPenzone won Best Salon and Spa in #Columbus. Two of their locations, one in the Short North the other in German Village, are just a few minutes away from our hotel.

Best Sport’s Team in Columbus are 1) Ohio State Football 2) The Columbus Crew 3) The Columbus Blue Jackets and 4) the ColumbusClippers.  Sound about right to us! Although we support all #Buckeye teams, not just the football team.

The Best Music Venue of 2013 – The LC Pavillion. This comes as no surprise.

Well, there you have it, the best of 2013, and what we are looking forward to in 2014! What are YOU doing for New Year’s? Are you going to any of these venues or restaurants? Are you staying with us at The Lofts? What are you looking forward to about #ColumbusCulture in 2014?
